Tymon is the Polish form of Timon, derived from a Greek word meaning "honour, respect, esteem". The name thus carries the idea of a person held in honour, or one who honours others.
The name has Ancient Greek roots and appears already in the New Testament, where Timon is one of the seven deacons chosen by the apostles. In Poland it long remained rare and literary, but in the twenty-first century it began to gain popularity quickly as a fresh, short and modern name.
It comes from the Greek verb timao — "to honour, to respect", and the noun timḗ — "honour, dignity". The names Tymoteusz and Tymoteja belong to the same family.
